IJL Ganil CNRS BARC

An international joint laboratory has been founded by the CEA, the CNRS and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. The Indo French Nuclear Physics IJL follows the first agreement between GANIL (CNRS-CEA) and BARC signed during the state visit in 2008. The creation of the IJL will enable tthe pursuit of existing Indo French cooperation in nuclear physics and initiate a collaboration agreement for the project on the second generation radioactive ion beam production system, SPIRAL2.

First dual degree

The Indo French collaboration between NCBS, Manipal University and Réunion University set up to promote joint research in computational biology recently witnessed its first Phd thesis defense. Mr Chilamakuri Chandrasekhar Reddy, supervised jointly by Pr Sowdhamini (NCBS) and Pr Bernard Offmann (Réunion) conducted research in both labs and will be awarded degrees under the French and the Indian system.

India is one of the CNRS' priorities

India is one of the CNRS' priorities. India, which is becoming increasingly concerned over environmental protection, is also involved in a cooperation programme with the CNRS. A symposium on the theme of sustainable development and the environment is scheduled to take place in Bangalore in January 2010, in partnership with the French embassy. A CNRS office is also due to open in Delhi, in March 2010.

  • ICM 2010...The French mathematicians are supported by the Comité National Français des Mathématiciens (CNFM), la Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), the Société Mathématique de France (SMF) and the CNRS

  • ICM 2010 ...France is traditionally well represented at the ICM, more so after the 1990s.This year, the French delegation, second only to the American, has 4 plenary speakers, and 22 invited speakers. Out of the 48 Fields Medals, 9 have been awarded to French mathematicians.

  • ICM 2010 The European delegation counts 76 mathematicians, from 15 countries: Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Austria, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic and Hungary.

  • ICM 2010...During ICM 2010, two to four Fields medals will be awarded, the Nevanlinna Prize in theoretical computer science, the Gauss Prize for applied mathermatics and for the first time, the Chern Prize.
