Catherine Etchebest heads the Dynamics of Structures and Interactions in Biological Macromolecules Inserm/Paris 7 team at the University Paris 7  (Denis Diderot). This team develops original bioinformatics methods for predicting 3d protein structures for analyzing functional genomics data and exploring strructural properties of large macromolecular assemblies.

Joint Laboratory for Sustainable Chemistry at Interfaces : a collaborative initiative between CNRS,CSIR and the University of Rennes

Molecular chemists face a major challenge in addressing the health sector towards combating new and unmet diseases while protecting the environment in order to transfer an unspoiled Nature to future generations.  In order to contribute to better global solutions for such a task, a new Indo-French Joint Laboratory was set up recently between the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, India and the University of Rennes and CNRS, France.  Under this joint umbrella, the common laboratory has been set up within the campus of the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology with office and lab space reserved also in Rennes for the visiting Indian scientists. This Joint Laboratory produces publications in highly relevant areas of research with a large impact, as well as innovative patents. All the publications and patents are shared by both parties equally.

The conference will be held by Dr René Grée, Dr JS Yadav and Dr Chandrasekhar who will talk about this unique scientific partnership and their experiences. A presentation of their talk can be downloaded here .

Michel Torrijos is an engineer from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) in Toulouse. Since 1996 he has worked at the National Institute for Agronomic Research's Laboratory for Environmental Biology (LBE ) and currently heads the Technology Transfer Unit which aims to provide an interface between the research teams at LBE and the industrial circle working in wastewater or solid waste treament.

Nicole Ostrowsky began her career in quantum optics and went onto to become the director of the Laboratory of Condensed Matter at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. She has taught physics at different university levels and she is now interested in aspects of imparting scientific education. Her talk will focus on the agenda of the apprentice scientist, which has been recently published with a foreward by George Charpak.

Anavaj Sakuntabhai is a  medical doctor who obtained his DPhil in human molecular genetics from Oxford before joining the Institut Pasteur in Paris in 2000. He has developed 2 programs to study human genetic susceptability  to 2 important vector born infections : dengue and malaria. He leads a group at the Institut Pasteur which focuses on human genetic basis of biological response to infection. ka

Marta Dvorák is Professor of World Literatures in English at the Sorbonne Nouvelle. She is a former Associate Editor of the International Journal for Canadian Studies and Editor in Chief of the journal Commonwealth Essays and Studies as well as the President of the French Society for the Study of the Countries of the Commonwealth. Marta is a currently a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Jacques Lucas is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and Emertitus Professor at the University of Rennes where he started the CNRS associated Glass and Ceramic Laboratory. He is a specialist of solid state chemistry and exotic non crystalline solids. Amongst his significant discoveries are the fluoride glasses and their applications in telecommunications as well as new families of Tellurium based glasses for infrared applications.

Eric Gaume is considered as one of leading French experts in hydrology.He works at the Laboratoire Centrale des Ponts et Chaussées where he leads the Water and Environment department. Eric Gaume has been involved in two major European research programs on flood and flash floods: Floodsite and Hydrate. He has worked on the development of post-flood field investigation strategies, on flood risk assessment testing new Bayesian and regional statistical methods and on flood forecasting.

Dr. Romain Micol (MD, MPH) is an infectious diseases physician. Since early 2008 he has been working as medical advisor of Mérieux Alliance at Shantha Biotechnics Limited (Hyderabad). Conference title:  Wind Tunnel Simulation of Dispersion and Wind Dynamics: Application to Deep Pits

Laurent PERRET is a French scientist who obtained his PhD in fluid mechanics. His work led to the development of a novel method to generate unsteady inflow conditions from experimental data for the computation of turbulent flows. He is currently involved in collaborative projects, all related to the interaction of the low atmosphere with urban canopies or forest/rural canopies, in which wind tunnel simulations are performed together with numerical and theoretical modelling.

  • ICM 2010...The French mathematicians are supported by the Comité National Français des Mathématiciens (CNFM), la Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), the Société Mathématique de France (SMF) and the CNRS

  • ICM 2010 ...France is traditionally well represented at the ICM, more so after the 1990s.This year, the French delegation, second only to the American, has 4 plenary speakers, and 22 invited speakers. Out of the 48 Fields Medals, 9 have been awarded to French mathematicians.

  • ICM 2010 The European delegation counts 76 mathematicians, from 15 countries: Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Austria, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic and Hungary.
