The Indo French collaboration between NCBS, Manipal University and Réunion University set up to promote joint research in computational biology recently witnessed its first Phd thesis defense. Mr Chilamakuri Chandrasekhar Reddy, supervised jointly by Pr Sowdhamini (NCBS) and Pr Bernard Offmann (Réunion) conducted research in both labs and will be awarded degrees under the French and the Indian system.

Tara Oceans is coming to India! Come and explore Tara when it docks in Mumbai.

As part of the Tara Oceans Expedition, Tara will dock at Mumbai on the 26th of March and at Goa on the 2nd of April. It will then travel south towards the Maldives, Mauritius, Réunion and South Africa. Visit the scientific vessel, meet the scientists, attend the talk and the film screening on the 26th March 2010. Tara Oceans is an exceptional 3-year marine expedition managed by Tara Expeditions’ team and a scientific consortium, led by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

The Paris Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences (universities Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris-Diderot and Paris-Dauphine) and the Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris are offering master level scholarships and personalized support to students. The PGSM master is a two-year programme which recruits students who have completed a bachelor or equivalent in mathematical sciences. The Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris is offering ten two-year scholarships for a master in mathematics or in fundamental computer science. Applications for the PGSM programme can be made from January 31 to March 4 at midnight (Paris time).
